5-Year Old Boy Turns Down Chocolate For Snack

by John Manley, "The Lord of the Liver" | Monday, April 9, 2012

After lunch, last Saturday, my wife, Nicole, and 5-year old son, Jonah, went to gymnastic class.

Afterwards they went to the local chocolate shop to get a few goodies for Easter. Upon purchasing, the lady behind the counter gave Jonah an extra piece of chocolate (at no charge).

When my wife and him got out to the street, she said: “Do you want to have the chocolate now?” Read more »

Where Does The Word “Easter” Come From, Anyways?

by John Manley, "The Lord of the Liver" | Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Ever wonder where the word “Easter” comes from?

According to Bede, a 6th century English monk, Easter comes from the German goddess Eostur – who was celebrated in April in early Medieval England. The spring worship of Eostur was replaced by the Christian tradition we know today.

Anyway, holidays are almost upon us. Whether you come out feeling stressed or refreshed by Easter Monday is often a toss up. To help you come away feeling rejuvenated, here are 7 Easter Holiday Survival Tips: Read more »

Joint Pain Not Caused By Joints

by John Manley, "The Lord of the Liver" | Tuesday, April 3, 2012

“Several years ago,” says Jesse Cannone, “I met a very attractive woman at the gym. As every guy can tell you, sometimes we do stupid things to impress a girl…”

Before he knew it Jesse found himself running marathons to win the adoration of Maria. Maria was one of those women who are obsessed with running. Nothing attracts them more than a man who can survive a 32-mile marathon.

“I was more into lifting weights than running,” says Jesse. “Still, I figured I could keep up.” Read more »

TV: The Vast Wasteland Which Shipwrecked The S.S. Minnow

by John Manley, "The Lord of the Liver" | Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Newton Minnows was appointed by John F. Kennedy to be the chairman for the Federal Communications Commission. In his maiden speech, on May 9, 1961, here’s what Minnow had to say about television programming:

“[Television programming offers] a procession of game shows, formula comedies about totally unbelievable families, blood and thunder, mayhem, violence, sadism, murder, western bad men, western good men, private eyes, gangsters, more violence, and cartoons. And endlessly commercials — many screaming, cajoling, and offending.

“And most of all, [TV offers] boredom. True, you’ll see a few things you will enjoy. But they will be very, very few.”

That was over 50 years ago, when the United States had only three television stations.

Sadly, his words did not prevent much. Television is pretty much the same today. Read more »

by John Manley, "The Lord of the Liver" | Monday, April 2, 2012

An hour after lunch, on Saturday, a headache started to creep up my neck. Two hours later it had surrounded my skull. It started as a dull yet threatening pain.

The Stress Of Owning A LG 32″ 720p LCD HDTV

by John Manley, "The Lord of the Liver" | Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Eating organic food that hasn’t been sprayed down with poisonous chemicals is looked upon as some type of luxury.

Owning a LG 32″ 720p LCD HDTV (with Picture Wizard), however, is just a necessity of life.

The average American household owes $75,000 (according CNN Money).

About $10,000 of that is credit card debt (paying for those 32” TVs).

The rest is mortgages, student loans, auto insurance, medical debt and late fees on movie rentals.

Currently, Bloomberg reports currently U.S. consumers owe over $2.5 trillion in debt.

Meeting just the minimum payments (without incurring any more debt) would take 25-40 years to pay off. And that’s assuming the interest rate averages 10%.

When something is not paid for, I believe this puts major stress on the mind. The transaction isn’t complete. There’s an “open loop.” Read more »
