Woman Saves Husband From “Diabetes Of The Brain”
“You know, he’s actually on the verge of severe Alzheimer’s at this point,” said the doctor to Mary Newport.
Mary Newport’s husband had been asked to draw a picture of a clock. All he could manage was a bunch of random circles and some numbers
“So that was very, very devastating news,” Newport reported to CBN News.
Steve Newport has what doctors are calling a “diabetes of the brain.” This is where the actual cells of the brain start becoming resistant to insulin. Without insulin, sugar molecules can’t be absorbed. Without sugar, you’re brain cannot function. Glucose is it’s primary form of energy.
Ever go without food for a long time and find it difficult to think clearly? Lack of sugar to the brain may part of the reason. (Which is why maintaining a normal blood sugar with the Liver Snacking Program is so important for mental focus.)
An alternative source of fuel for the brain (and body) is ketones. Ketones are produced from fat by your liver. Either fat from your food or fat from your body.
Liver Snackers understand this. Because the Liver Snacking Program encourages you to rely on your liver in between meals to provide fuel for the body. Half the fuel comes from the starch (glycogen) stored in your liver. The other half from fat it burns off your body.
It almost makes me wonder if simply following the Liver Snacking Program would help prevent or even reverse Alzheimer’s. Because, when you are liver snacking (and not food snacking) you’re bloodstream receives a mixture of glucose, fatty acids and ketones from your liver.
Anyway, back to Mary Newport’s discovery…
Coconut oil has long been known to be the easiest form of fat for the liver to convert into ketones. The ketogenic diet of the 1920s — used to help epilepsy patients — focused heavily on coconut oil.
So Mary Newport started giving her husband daily doses of coconut oil.
Steve Newport hadn’t been able to read for over a year and half. But after only three months of “coconut oil therapy,” his wife reports, he was able to read again.
He could also pass the Alzhimer’s “clock test” after only 37 days of coconut oil.
So how much coconut oil should someone showing signs of Alzhimer’s take?
“For most people,” said Newport in her FAQ Guide, “the goal would be to increase gradually to 4-6 tablespoons a day, depending on the size of the person, spread over 2-4 meals.”
But start slow. Too much, too fast, and you may experience some loose stools.
Also, you want to avoid refined or hydrogenated coconut oil.
Ideally, purchase organic. When you unscrew the lid, it should actually smell like coconuts.
There’s another big reason why I think the coconut oil is improving brain health. It’s not just the ketones.
Alzheimer’s is almost unheard of in countries like India. And it’s not because they eat lots of coconut oil. But they do eats lots of clarified butter. And the reason it helps is the same reason coconut oil helps.I’ll explain why in a future Liver Snacking E-Letter.
But coconut oil is obviously working for many people — whatever the reason. Newport has since written a book called “Alzheimer’s Disease: What If There Was a Cure? The Story of Ketones.” She receives letters from all over the world about how people have been able to help loved ones with this simple dietary change.
According to Johnson E. Brookmeyer in Forecasting the Global Burden of Alzheimer’s Disease, 1 out 85 people are expected to suffer from Alzheimer’s by 2050.
Hopefully the humble coconut will prove that dire prediction wrong.
Think Different. Live Healthy.
